A special congratulations goes out to Germantown High Student, Jasmine Durham. Jasmine was selected as one of only 100 students nation-wide to attend the Disney Dreamers Academy. Students across the nation competed for these coveted spots, and Jasmine won the opportunity to attend a 4 day conference where she will hear from speakers and attend sessions aimed at helping her plan ways to succeed in college and how to reach her best possible future.
To get to this point, Jasmine had to write a 200 word essay, to write a 100 word bio on why she wants to be a physical therapist and how she gives back to her community, and to pass 2 rounds of interviews. Then, from the 1,000 remaining finalists, only the best 100 were selected, and Jasmine is clearly one of the best.
We are very proud of Jasmine, all the hard work she put into reaching this point, and of the great future that awaits her.
First off, a huge shout out to all of Mr. Crenshaw's math ACT prep students. Last semester, they completed a combined total of 10,000 sheets of ACT practice. We are excited to see the impact it will have on their scores.
If you're a junior and didn't get the benefit of getting to contribute to those 10,000 pages of practice, consider signing up for a free ACT workshop. All juniors will be taking the ACT on April 2nd, paid for by the school.
If you're not a junior, the best thing you can do is to take one of the ACT prep courses we offer as part of your schedule next year. Course cards are coming out soon. The sooner you start practicing, the better your score will be, and the better your scholarships will be.
The ACT is coming, and is required for graduation (and enrollment in most colleges and trade schools), so you want to do your best. We strongly encourage all GHS students to sign up for a session of the upcoming ACT Prep University. Click here to sign up.
Parent Conference will be Thursday September 13th from 3:00 – 6:00pm. Your student should have a letter coming home from his or her teachers with information for requesting conferences and time slot availability. Please note all conferences must be scheduled, no walk-in conferences will be allowed. Once the teacher confirms the time, your child will receive a ticket for building admission with your scheduled time. If you are unable to schedule a time and would like a conference, please contact guidance at (901) 416-0946 and we will be glad to help make arrangements as soon as possible. Tickets will be required for admission to the buildings.
Thank you for supporting your child and the entire Germantown High community.
My advice is to form strong relationships with teachers. Talk to them if you need help or are confused on anything. It may be scary, but it will hurt in the long run if you don't say anything. Allowing them to understand your goals, interests, and concerns will allow them to share their expertise with you. They will help you navigate the college admission process.
