I'm glad Mikiyah is a part of Germantown High School because this school prepares her for college and has different avenues of learning. The school has a college feel, which I think is very important. The principals, teachers and the PTSA are awesome.
A few years ago, Mr. Ballentine started a campaign he calls "Bully the Bull" because his daughter, Maurquavia Haney, then a middle schooler in a SCS school was bullied. Now Maurquavia is a 10th grader at Germantown High School. This past Sunday, the NFL annual My Cause My Cleats Campaign allowed Linval Joseph (Nose Tackle for the Minnesota Viking) to choose a cause to highlight. Linval was once a victim of bullying and decided to make Bully the Bull (from Memphis, TN) his cause.
Monday, Maurquavia told her story to children at a YMCA in Minnesota and Bully the Bull did a meet and greet with the children. Today, Maurquavia visited two schools in the area and participated in a toy give away.
Yesterday, the Germantown High chapter of the National Science Honor Society went to LeBonheur to drop off donations and presents. Four years ago, one of our science teachers had to spend a few nights at LeBonheur as her infant son was being cared for and she learned about a need the hospital had for rocking chairs and other items to make life more comfortable for parent and child. Since that day, the NSHS club has been raising money to meet those needs. Midway through the next year, every room had rocking chairs and the club is now focusing on toiletries, noise machines to help babies sleep well, and items to make the rooms cheerier and more comfortable during a family's difficult times.
The student of week for December 10-14, 2018 is Jalen Redd. He was a football player and now plays for the baseball team. He is in French III, is always polite and respectful to fellow students and teachers. He is a model student who always does his best and we are very happy to have him. This is his senior year, and we are excited to see what the future holds, though we will miss him next year.
