I am delighted that my daughter, Taylor Woody is a GHS Red Devil because of the opportunities Germantown High School offers its students, and because of the superior education GHS provides. Taylor is a pre-IB student at Germantown, in addition to playing Bass Clarinet for the varsity Red Devil Marching Band. As a band member, Taylor has performed at GHS football games, competed in marching band showcases, and even traveled, as she will do in the spring when the band performs at Disney World in Orlando, FL. Because of the superior instruction she receives in band, Taylor was selected to perform in the All West Tennessee Honor Band this year.
My family knows from experience how valuable a GHS diploma can be, as Taylor's older brother, Joseph Woody, is a Red Devil alum as well. Just a reminder to come out to the football game tomorrow against White Station (7:00 PM). It's our last homegame, and that means we'll be honoring all the seniors in the football team, cheerleaders, and the band. It'll be a great game (GHS is undefeated) and a spectacular opportunity to show our love and support to the seniors.
All West is a regional event where high school and middle school band students have a choice of auditioning for a regional state band in the categories of jazz, orchestra, and concert bands. Germantown High School students have been preparing and practicing vigorously for this event, and if they meet the cut off they get a spot in one of the bands. If they make a high ranking position, then they have a chance to be in All State, which is a state band made up if only the highest ranking of players in each Tennessee region.
Germantown High School band students will be performing in a holiday parade on December 10. The parade starts at the corner of Kimbrough Road and Farmington Boulevard and will end at Exeter Road. This year's parade is in support of the U.S Marines Reserves Toys for Tots organization. Marines and veterans will be collecting toys for children along with the parade.
