Registration is now open
If you did not receive the necessary log-in information, contact the school. This includes new students.
April 5 from 4:30 - 7:30 pm
District-wide Registration Night. All SCS schools will be open to help parents register.
General Registration Information (or skip to the FAQs)
All new and returning students will register online. Returning students should visit their existing PowerSchool portal and new students will need to contact the school in order to begin the process.
Registration can be done from any computer, laptop, or tablet. (If you prefer to use a computer and don't have easy access to one, remember public libraries have computers the public can use. Schools will also be open at certain times for you to use our library computers—call for a list of times.)
You will need to upload two proofs of residency. For a list of acceptable proofs, click here.
If your child will be riding the bus, make sure you look here to find his or her bus stop before the first day of school. Also, remember that if your child attends GHS on a transfer, you are responsible to provide transportation.
What do I need and where can I complete Priority Registration?
You will need:
--either a computer, tablet, or smartphone
--a reliable internet connection
--a scanner (or camera) to create an image of your proofs of residency
--(new students only) You need to visit your zoned school (with proofs of residency) before starting, so we can get you in the system.
What information should I have on hand to complete Priority Registration?
You need to have:
--An email address. If you do not have one, free ones are available from places like gmail.com Please check this account regularly. Teachers often will use that address to send information occasionally.
--Residency documents (see the list of acceptable proofs here)
--Any information specific to your child (medical information, etc.)
--Information about new students (immunization record, birth certificate, transcripts, report cards, etc.)
Should I create an account?
Yes, everyone will have to create a Parent Portal Account. Returning students are already using this portal. New students will receive the information to create a portal when they visit the school. The Parent Portal Account will allow you to securely save the information you enter and come back if you need to finish later. You do need an email to create an account.
Do I need more than one Parent Portal account if I have multiple children?
No, you must use the same account as the first child and just enter the new information. If your additional child is NEW to SCS, or left and is returning, you need to go to the school that child is zoned for (with proofs of residency for the child) and then you can use that same account you created for your other child to register. In that situation, the new child can register at the same time as returning students.
How do I know if my child is a new or returning student?
Any child that was in SCS last year is returning, even if they are now at a different SCS school. Any child coming from charter schools, ASD schools, or other districts are new and must go to their zoned school (with proofs of residency) before they can get a Parent Portal Account.

What if I do not have access to a computer, scanner, or internet at home, where can I go to register?
--Remember that phones and tablets can be used, as long as they have internet access.
--If all you need is a scanner, just take a picture of the documents. It's the same thing.
--If you have neither computers/tablet/phone nor internet access, you can visit these locations or a public library.

Do I have to answer all questions in the online registration application?
Questions with a red asterisk (*) require a response and the process is not complete until those questions are answered. The others may be left blank, if you wish, but we discourage leaving questions blank. The more we know, the better we can support your child.
What if I make a mistake?
If you want to make a change before you submit the application, click on the underlined field or click "< Prev" to return to a previous page. If you need to make a change after the application is submitted you will need to visit the school. Remember some things, such as guardian names and social security numbers, may require you to bring appropriate documentation to justify a change.
I have completed the online priority registration process. What's next?
Once all information has been entered and an electronic signature supplied, click "Submit." A preview page will appear to let you review information and tell you if you missed any required fields.
If you are a returning student with no address change and have uploaded proofs of residency, the process is complete. If your address changed, you must visit the school to present new residency documents, even if your change of address does not change your zoned school. Only your school can change the address listed for your child in the system.
All NEW students MUST visit their zoned school to register and present ALL documentation.
What if I have more than one child in SCS?
Each child will have to register through the online process, but you must use the same Parent Portal to do all the registrations. When you finish registering the first child, you'll be asked if you wish to register another child. Then, much of the information will be copied over to the new child to prevent you from having to enter too much information twice. HOWEVER, proofs of residency often don't copy over (so check and re-upload if necessary). Also, the information will only copy over if the child is returning. New students to the district will have to have all their information entered.
How do I know which school my child is assigned to if they are new to SCS?
What documents will be accepted for registration verification?
Provide 2 recent documents from this list.
What if I don't have those documents for some reason?
You're likely on shared residency. You'll need to get the shared residency affidavit, you and the homeowner will need to go together to get it notarized (many banks offer this service for free if you have an account with them), then you and the homeowner will need to go together to the central office to present your proofs. The homeowner will need to show two proofs off this list and you need to have two off this list. The central office's address is:
160 S. Hollywood St.
Memphis, TN 38112
Are there any other forms I have to fill out at the school? What about homeroom, schedules, etc.?
There are no additional forms required, but on the Tuesday before the start of school (July 31) you will want to come to school to get schedules and bus information. If you register during the Priority Registration window, we will already have your schedule built and waiting for you. If you wait to enroll until July, come that Tuesday and, if we haven't gotten your schedule created we can get the information needed to do that.
I'm having trouble with the online registration system. Who should I contact for help?
What if some of the pre-populated information was wrong when I logged in to the online registration?
If the pre-populated information is wrong, it may be human error during the data entry process, or the original information from the first enrollment may have been incorrect. To make corrections, please submit legal documentation to the child's assigned school as appropriate. Misspelled names, incorrect birthdays, custody alerts, legal name changes, and other information can be corrected in our system, but we must have appropriate documentation from a parent/guardian before we can make a change. As you can imagine, some changes require more documentation than others, so if you have questions you may contact the school.
What if my child is on long-term suspension/expulsion and the suspension has not ended? How should I proceed?
If your child is on long-term suspension, they must complete their suspension before returning to GHS, unless the suspension is overridden by the disciplinary authority. Some schools are able to accept students back early with the start of a new school year, but due to the large number of students desiring to attend GHS, we are not able to allow students back early.
However, students on long-term suspension can complete online registration as a returning student, provided they ended the year at an SCS school, including alternative schools. Your zoned school will just be the alternative school until the suspension ends.
If your child was expelled from his or her previous school, but is new to SCS, please contact Student Services (901-416-2200) for registration assistance.
For information about alternative school placement, please call Alternative Schools at 901-416-2200.
If none of my child's information has changed, do I still need to do the online registration process?
Yes, yearly registration is required for all students and all registration will be completed online. Having accurate information about your child is simply too important to not check our data yearly.
What if my child was retained and did not attend summer school? May I still register my child for the grade he/she should have been promoted to?
No, we will be verifying grade levels / credits and will not approve the registration. The district will also disseminate a retention list and summer school promotion list. If your child is in the incorrect grade, the school will correct the error and place your child appropriately. On the plus side, if your child completes the needed credits during the year, we will change their classification as soon as the requirements are met. If summer school was not an option, but you are concerned, talk to the counselors about using Memphis Virtual School or other options to help your child catch up.
If my child has received an approved General Choice Transfer or an Optional Transfer and the online registration portal showed the zoned school, what do I do?
Continue with the registration process and contact the school your child should be at. The school can get the registration record rolled over, so don't stress about waiting for that to change before finishing the application. Just do your part, tell the school, then you don't have to stress.
