Being a part of the Lady Red Devils softball team was the highlight of my sophomore year. I made so many new friends and I had so much fun. Although it was a lot of hard work, I learned valuable lessons about leadership and friendship. Some of my favorite memories include going to a Memphis softball game, eating at Ching’s, getting super pumped before every game and, of course, the very first time I hit the ball. All of the girls were so helpful and supportive not just before, during, and after the games, but at practice, too. They helped me learn all the rules and positions as well as how to swing the bat correctly and how to throw the ball right. They all knew how to make me feel better if I made a mistake and how to congratulate me if I did something good. I could not have gotten as good as I did without Coach Martin’s help. She helped me a lot-during conditioning, at practice, and during games. Coach Appel and Coach White were also very helpful during the games-helping me know when to go or stay, how to correct my stance, and how far away from the base I should be when I played outfield. I went from not having ever played softball before and knowing very little about it to starting some of the games and hitting almost once every time I played. I even earned “Most Improved” thanks to the help of my coaches and my teammates. I’ll never forget winning our first game. It was one of the best feelings knowing that all our hard work had payed off. Playing with those girls was one of my favorite sophomore memories and I will never forget it.
