Germantown High School offers a variety of career and technical courses designed to help students excel in whatever they may choose to do: whether that be a field requiring a university degree, or one requiring a technical college certification. Over the next few days, we’ll be highlighting several of these courses.
Therapeutic Nursing Services is designed to prepare students to pursue careers in the field of nursing. Upon completion of this program, a proficient student will be able to implement communication and interpersonal skills, maintain residents’ rights and independence, provide care safely, prevent emergency situations, prevent infection through infection control, and perform the skills required of a nursing assistant. Students will log forty hours of site-based clinical work with at least 24 of those hours spent in a long-term care facility as part of the Level 4 course.
The Therapeutic Nursing occupation group will have positive growth statewide between 2014 and 2022. Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 14-16 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will occur for a number of reasons, including an increased emphasis on preventive care; growing rates of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity; and demand for healthcare services from the baby-boom population, as they live longer and more active lives.
