Germantown High School offers a variety of career and technical courses designed to help students excel in whatever they may choose to do: whether that be a field requiring a university degree, or one requiring a technical college certification. Over the next few days, we’ll be highlighting several of these courses.
Dietetics and Nutrition is designed to prepare students for occupations that focus on nutritional well-being, such as dietitian or nutritional counselor. While in this program of study, students investigate human needs, nutritional requirements and issues, nutrients and their relation to disease, and disease prevention. Upon completion of this program of study, students will graduate with a professional portfolio in preparation for future training at the postsecondary level.
The Dietetics and Nutrition occupation group is projected to grow by 17 percent in Tennessee between 2014 and 2022. Job opportunities are strongest in urban and suburban areas of Tennessee. The job outlook for this program of study in Tennessee is as follows: 14.8 percent increase for dietitians and nutritionists, 24.8 percent increase for health educators, and a 12.2 percent increase for dietetic technicians by 2022.
